Here are a couple of my more successful efforts from painting. I was using gouache again. I'm quite pleased with the results, although I'm using more opaque paint than I would like. I like the effects you get when you layer up thin washes and I'm losing that at the moment.

On one of the days I took my pastels out.. and instantly regretted it! I really struggled with them. I think this was partly due to the subject matter. I was finding doing architecture pretty tricky with them as it's hard to get clean edges. I think I'll avoid man made structures until I'm a little more practiced with them!

Personally I quite like the pastels of the buildings. There is something a bit 'raggy' about them but I think it gives a feeling of the light dancing about on the surface. In contrast, the gouache seems to suits the still, cool, shady foliage really well.
Of course I'm only imagining that the light was dancing and the shade cool but I think the comparison is interesting.
My favourite though is the gouache of the streetscene with the orange facade. I love the colour, the light and the way the contemporary city-cars stop it from being twee and picturesque.
Nice work, what a fantastic way to spend a few days.
Ange these are (as always) completely amazing. Looks like you had time to do lots of drawing! Was it hot? It was roasting here!!! We need to have a discussion about you dressing like a boy though.....x
Wow, I haven't stopped by in a while so there's loads of great stuff for me to ogle at!
Loving the 1st pic - lighting & colours......sweet.
Also, there's a pic further down you said isn't complete ..... I love the lighting & colours in that too! Don't finish it!
Hope all's good

Haha! How many boys wear shoulderless tight tshirts? (well alright apart from the crowd in soho sq last night) (Hello Jo, hope you're well :))
Rome pics look lovely but I was most impressed with your picture of buying trainers a few posts back. Cos you always say you struggle with characters but this one is full of personality and emotion. :)
really like that top painting!
